Caterpillar Demolition

Oxford, Mississippi

After a terribly destructive tornado ripped through Oxford in February 2008, construction crews gathered to repair damage. Century Construction began work the day following the tornado. Work continued for several months demolishing destroyed sections of the plant and replacing them with new and improved facilities. Demolition included metal building sections, industrial assembly lines, and 24 inch reinforced concrete. Century Construction’ work on this project was not limited to demolition. Century’s crews also poured and finished over 30,000 square feet of concrete including truck docks and interior flooring. In addition, Century Construction performed site work preparing areas for asphalt paving and sod.

Byram High School

Byram, Mississippi

The Byram project was a challenge for Century Construction because of the timeframe and size of the job. There was a 60-day time limit on this project. The architect and owner were glad to work with us because of our experience and the size of our company. We were able to complete this project on time thanks to the guys in the field working hard, keeping on schedule, and having the right equipment for large scale jobs. We also took great steps toward recycling as much material as we could by salvaging as many of the precious metals we came across. We recycled all the steel and sent all the concrete to be crushed. All of the asphalt was milled so that it could be reused in future parking lots. We worked with a local resident in recycling some glass blocks to build a monument for the school. This job went exceptionally well thanks to good planning and having the right people and equipment for the job.
